Trapezoidal

Q: Hi,

New to wearing glasses and have progressive lenses.

When reading a book or computer screen it looks very trapezoidal and thus out of focus. Narrow at the top wide at the bottom...why is this?

Thanks
Paul

A: Hi,

This is about the progressive lens diopter position.

With progressive, you have several diopters so when the eye goes from one diopter to the next one, there is a slight sensation of a trapezoidal image.

This is why you need an accommodation period in which the image distortion will slowly go away, usually in 1-2 weeks, up to a month.

If this not happening, you should go back and recheck your prescription and measurements because this also happens when the prescription is too strong, or when you have astigmatism and the cylinder part of the lens is too strong.
